Happy Thursday book friends!
This week we’re chatting about series. I’m going to say now that I’m not going to include Harry Potter in this list, because it’s mentioned almost every other week and you know what, stop hogging the spotlight you glorious bastards.
So anyway, here we go:
1. The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency – Alexander McCall Smith
This series is so full of heart, I absolutely adore every book in it. Mma Ramotswe is the friend you wish you had – pragmatic, generous, kind, and loyal. Smith’s writing is gorgeous, and conjures such vivid images of Botswana and its people. I’d highly recommend giving this series a read if you’re in the mood for something easy to read and full of heart.
2. 1Q84 – Haruki Marukami
I don’t know if this is technically a ‘series’ but it came in three ‘books’ so I’m going to roll with it. This was the first Murakami I ever read and, as I’ve since realised is normal, his writing is wonderfully weird in these novels. The story really sucked me in and though Book Three wasn’t quite as powerful as the first two, this hefty trilogy has stuck with me.
3. The Checquy Files – Daniel O’Malley
I am usually very much a contemporary novel reader, but the urban sci-fi world that O’Malley creates in this series absolutely hooks you in. A friend of mine recommended these books to me, and soon afterwards I stumbled across a copy of the first book, The Rook, in an op-shop. I bought it, read it, and instantly wanted the next one in the series (Stiletto).

What are your favourite series? Or do you prefer standalone books?
As always, let me know if you join in on these Top 3 Thursday blog posts so I can show you some love! ♥
