I hope you’ve all had a restful, relaxing, or loud and fun, Christmas break! I’m so glad I still have another week before I’m back at work, I think I’m still catching up on sleep from early December…
In other news, I don’t know why I’ve done this to myself with this week’s theme. Choosing a Top 3 this year is possibly one of the hardest years I’ve had to do it!
I’ll give it a red hot go, and try to spread out the genres so maybe you’ll find one below you also love.
1. Pachinko – Min Jin lee
Our first ever book club read, and while it’s certainly not the most feel-good book out there, it’s fantastically written and you get so drawn in to the story.
You can read my full review here.
2. Queendom of the Seven Lakes – A. B. Endacott
If you’re looking for a way to support an independent Australian author, Alice is one of the best I know. I’m not typically a fantasy reader, but Queendom (and really all of Alice’s releases so far) was such an interesting, captivating read. Her world-building is spectacular without being over the top or confusing, and her characters have such great depth.
3. Emergency Contact – Mary H K Choi
This one snuck in with a week to spare! A diverse YA read with a compelling cast of characters. I couldn’t put it down and I’m so glad I got to read it this year!
Read more of my thoughts on it here.

For me I’ve found so many wonderful books this year. I think one that really made an impression was The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo – it blew me away, made me cry, and just really impressed me. While I loved both Nevermoor and Wundersmith by the divine Jessica Townsend. Better than Harry Potter!
