I’m so interested to see what some of you have as your Top 3 for this week!
I’ve gone with books that surprised me in a good way, but I’m secretly hoping some of you will use it as an opportunity to call out those books you thought you’d love but didn’t 😛
I’m realising surprise is kind of a funny word, it can delight, excite, or disappoint you. Hopefully you’re all having a delightfully surprising day today 😉
1. Illuminae – Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
I was never one to be too big on sci-fi novels, and the dossier-style formatting of this book made me think it was going to be way too confusing for my ‘reading brain’ which is used to pretty standard prose & contemporary, ‘real world’ settings. But thanks to Bec I gave it a go and I ended up loving it! I’m actually reading the sequel at the moment!

2. The Hate U Give – Angie Thomas
I knew this book was going to be good, I knew it was going to be enlightening, but I don’t think I was quite prepared for the impact it had on me even from the first chapter or two.
This book surprised me in the best possible way and I encourage everyone to pick it up.

3. We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves – Karen Joy Fowler
Before I started this book I was told the less I knew about it, the better. So I won’t give too much away but I will say that it was a fabulous read and definitely the good kind of surprising.
So there you have my Top 3 books that surprised me. Did you feel the same about any of them? Or tell me your Top 3, good or bad! 🙂
Until next week,
M xx
Illuminae was a good surprise for me as well. Sci-Fi is not something I tend to read very often but I absolutely loved this trilogy.
