Books I wish I could read again for the first time

I am someone who is totally happy re-reading a book and seeing what else I can get out of it. That said, there are some books I feel like I would love to discover again for the first time, knowing nothing about the characters or where they end up. These are a few of those books.

1. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine – Gail Honeyman

I know this book is generally a love-it-or-hate-it deal, but I absolutely adored it. I read it for the first time mostly huddled on a comfy armchair in CK’s family home in Dublin, while it was bitterly cold outside. The joys of changing and growing with Eleanor and Raymond warmed me from the inside out.

2. The Alchemist – Paolo Coelho

This book came in to my life at exactly the time I needed it to, which feels even more special after having read it. I think it’s a book I could re-read over and over again and still find new things to love, but to read it for the first time again with no hope or expectation of what it contained would be such a joy.

3. Gone Girl – Gillian Flynn

If it weren’t for the fact I read this book on my kindle, I would have HURLED it across the room while I was reading it because it was making me so tense and frustrated (in the way it was meant to – a good thing I promise). I’m not sure if a re-read would elicit the same reaction as I know how it all goes down now, but I think it’s probably the most gut-wrenching reaction I’ve had to a book, in that I’ve never before been quite so tempted to damage my own property for the sake of a character…
