Happy Thursday all! We’re nearly at the weekend again – how good.
This week’s topic is pretty straight forward, and I see a lot of fantasy books around the ‘gram so I’m happy to be giving some love to a few favourite contemporary reads today. It’s a HARD topic though because there are so many fabulous contemporary reads out there, so take these top 3 with a grain of salt because I could have a different top 3 on any given week I think!
1. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine – Gail Honeyman
I read Eleanor for the first time about a year ago and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. This read was funny, heartbreaking, and thoughtful all at once…I might well be due for a re-read!
2. A Man Called Ove – Fredrik Backman
I feel grumpy old Ove on a spiritual level some days. This was such a heartwarming story though, and again made me laugh out loud. There’s kind of a theme here I think…
3. Americanah – Chimimanda Ngozi Adichie
It has been a couple of years since I read this book, but it sparked my love of Adichie and definitely opened my eyes. Ifemelu was such a fabulous main character, and it was refreshing to read such a strong female lead who is as self-aware and self-assured as she is, but still struggles with adversity and doesn’t quite have it all figured out. I want to read it again, but I have plenty of other Adichie books on my shelves to get to.
Are you a fan of contemporary fiction? What are some of your favourites?
Until next week,
M xx
