This week we’re all about those backlist titles. Not the fancy new ones that have been released this year (which always seem to jump ahead in the reading queue), but the ones waiting patiently on our shelves until we get to them.
Here are my favourite 3 reads from this year that were published earlier than July 2018 (I had to give myself another half year buffer or it was too hard!)! I’d love to hear yours in the comments below, too.
1. Eggshell Skull – Bri Lee
I’ve mentioned this one a bit lately because I had only just gotten around to reading it, but oh my lord. I’m still recommending it to people and talking to friends about it! You can find my review here.
2. Homegoing – Yaa Gyasi
I loved this book for giving me the chance to learn about a different culture, and read a multi-generational story about strong women and families. It’s almost reads like 14 short stories, and while all the characters are connected, you can still enjoy the book/stories for what they are without weaving that thread through necessarily.
3. Educated – Tara Westover
I read this one while on holiday in Japan and I think I devoured it in about 3 days (thanks to Shinkansen trips!). It is such a gripping story, and although it can be a bit gruesome it’s just an absolutely fascinating peek inside a world so different to my own. Read my full review here!
So there we go! given my usual reading habits I’m fairly surprised that two of the books on this list are non-fiction…am I growing up?!
Less than 7 weeks left until the end of the year – what are you still hoping to read? 🙂
Until next week,
